It’s either your worst nightmare or bucket-list best, however you look at it though, the view is crystal clear…and turquoise with a lot of marine life and did we mention sharks? Yep, for a limited time you can stay in an Airbnb shark tank pad!
Airbnb’s official pitch reads: “Love sharks? Live in a Shark Aquarium. This is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sleep in an underwater bedroom, where the only thing separating you from your neighbors is the 360-degree transparent wall.”
Personally we’re week at the knees with excitement!
Located in the Aquarium de Paris, the ‘accommodation’ is a 360 degree underwater glass pod, submerged in a tank containing 35 sharks and 3 million litres of water (around 800,000 gallons).
The tank was built by Etienne Clamagirand of Architeuthis and the room was tested in the Mediterranean sea for durability.
The aquatic sleepover with some sharp toothed friends is only available on April the 11th, 12th and 13th as part of an Airbnb competition, where your bed for the night is completely round to fit the tank and take in the breath-taking views.
The aquarium has partnered with world record-breaking freediver and shark enthusiast Fred Buyle, who will ‘dance’ alongside the sharks as part of your entertainment and of course to introduce your friendly neighbours, just in case sleeping with these revered creatures wasn’t enough!
Considering the shark pod literally just manages to fit a bed, it looks surprising comfy and dare we say homely? The ‘accommodation’ is advertised as having one bedroom, one bathroom as well as shampoo and breakfast. Not sure where exactly you are washing your hair though!
Once you’re settled, Fred and one of the aquarium marine biologists will guide you on a tour through the aquarium, and provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of sharks: how they live, why they’re so misunderstood and their importance to the ocean’s ecosystem.
The accommodation has some unique rules:
“No selfies after dark, no sleepwalking or night swimming,” as well as “keep your heads and feet in the bedroom at all times.” Good to see they have a sense of humour, right?
According to Airbnb partnership director Anne-Sophie Frenove, the winners will be “able to feed the baby sharks, and after they’ll have dinner. Afterwards they’ll be able to go into the structure and look at the thirty-five sharks of six different species,” she adds.
Who can resist a cute baby shark, just make sure they are well fed!
